East York is a district of Toronto, in Southern Ontario. Located only 10 kilometres from the big city's downtown core, East York is more of a residential community when compared to other districts of Toronto. As with the rest of the GTA, East York is highly multi-cultural, with about 50% of residents being new to Canada. The neighbourhoods are unofficially divided into two regions: Old East York with Broadview North, Crescent Town, Glebe Land, Tormorden Village and Woodbine Heights and Suburban East York with Bermondsey, Governor's Bridge, Leaside, O'Connor-Parkview and Thorncliffe Park. The Don Valley Parkway runs through the centre of the district, enabling its' commuter residents to easily access the main highways surrounding the GTA.
